About This Project

This project is located in Agios Tychonas area. More specifically the plot lies on a sloping hill with the land falling sharply away to the south. Essentially there is an amazing view in a large angle around the house with the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Limassol lying just beneath it. The approach to the design was developed through the repurposing of the leftover structure of the existing house in order to create a contemporary response to the client’s brief. The structure is stretched, distorted and repurposed not only to create the external building form, but also to facilitate the programmatic arrangement within the building interior.The house is developed in 3 split-levels. The double pitched roofs reference to the surrounding hills at the north, while the use of black standing seam metal cladding provides a strong contrast and highlights the silhouette of the building. Translucency features, define the southern side. Large windows focus to the undistracted views of the sea and the land. The rest facades maintain a less translucent character sustaining the privacy of the interior programs.The main two volumes define the different programmatic layout. At the eastern volume the communal spaces are developed, while at the western volume the more private areas are located. The ground floor is consisted by the living room with the double height ceiling, the dinning/ kitchen area, the gym and the guest’s bedroom. The first floor is consisted by the sleeping areas and the study rooms. Finally, the third floor is occupied by the master bedroom program. The bed area is facing south while the walk-in closet, sauna and restroom face North. The panoramic view of the landscape accompanies the user day and night.The swimming pool is placed at the south and maintains visual contact with the sea and the house. The rest of the yard includes parking spaces, large vegetated areas and a small-scale basketball court at the north side. In addition, an extra volume is placed at the west covered by the ground slopes and luminated by skylights. This space will work as a garage and workshop area.
